gimbal keeps drifting left after i updated the firmware, anyone else

  • Members

this has been bugging me for a while and im finally posting about it because i cant figure it out. i have a Ronin SC and after i updated to the latest firmware through the app the roll axis just slowly drifts to the left over like 20-30 seconds. it self corrects sometimes but then does it again. before the update it was rock solid, ive been using this thing for over a year with zero issues.

ive done the calibration twice, made sure the camera balance is good, even took the camera off and remounted it thinking maybe something shifted. the IMU calibration seems fine according to the app but clearly something is off. is this a known issue with the recent update or am i missing something obvious here

I had almost the exact same thing happen with my RS2 after an update, not the SC but similar firmware architecture. What fixed it for me was doing a full factory reset through the app ? not just recalibrating but actually wiping the settings and starting fresh. The update apparently overwrote some of the motor tuning parameters in a way that the regular calibration doesnt fix. Bit annoying but after the reset and a fresh calibration it was back to normal. Might be worth trying before you go down a rabbit hole with DJI support.

honestly gimbal firmware updates are a gamble half the time. i stopped updating mine unless theres a specific bug fix i actually need. the drift thing sounds like it could also be the axis motor slowly losing its hold, like the PID gains got lowered in the update or something. if a factory reset doesnt sort it maybe try rolling back the firmware, dji usually keeps older versions accessible if you dig around in the assistant software
