okay this might be a weird one. we have an Inspire 2 and a client came to us wanting some very specific thermal and RGB combined capture for an infrastructure inspection job. the Zenmuse XT2 covers most of it but they want a simultaneous visible light camera thats higher res than what the XT2 pairs with natively. ive seen some people mention aftermarket payload solutions that use the DJI SDK integration but i honestly dont know how deep that rabbit hole goes.

the Inspire 2 payload limit is technically around 1.35kg on the standard setup and most aftermarket gimbal rigs for anything serious start pushing right up against that or over it once you add batteries and cables. has anyone here actually flown something non-DJI on an Inspire 2 without just zip tying it to the frame like an animal

yeah ive done this, sort of. used a custom mount for a job that needed a Workswell thermal alongside a Sony sensor rig. the weight management was stressful the whole time and we had noticeably reduced flight times, like down to 11-12 minutes from the usual 18-ish depending on conditions. the flight controller handled the extra weight okay but you could feel it in the responsiveness, especially in any kind of wind. wouldnt want to do it regularly on complex inspection routes

honestly for infrastructure inspection at that level of spec the Inspire 2 might just not be the right tool regardless of what you bolt on. Matrice 300 RTK with dual gimbal payload is basically built for exactly what your describing. the cost difference is real but so is the reliability gap when youre flying over active infrastructure and someone wants that data to actually hold up in a report. not saying dont try the Inspire route but id have that conversation with the client first about what platform they really need
