so i was reading through some stuff on the FAA site last night and it looks like theyre pushing ahead with more Remote ID enforcement starting sometime next year. ive been flying recreationally for like 3 years now and honestly i still feel like half the community doesnt even know what Remote ID is or that their drone might not be compliant. my Mavic Mini 2 needed the firmware update to be legal and i only found out because someone mentioned it here like 6 months ago.

theres also apparently some new proposed rules around flying near moving vehicles and crowds that are in the comment period right now. i tried reading the full document but its like 80 pages of legal language. does anyone know if theres a decent plain-english summary somewhere? or if any of the big youtube channels have covered it yet? feels like the regulation side of this hobby is moving way faster than most people realize and its gonna catch some folks off guard.

yeah Remy from 51 Drones did a video on the Remote ID enforcement stuff a few weeks back, pretty good breakdown if you dont want to wade through the actual FAA docs. he covers most of the practical stuff you actually need to know as a rec flyer.

the crowd and moving vehicle rules are interesting though, i hadnt heard about those specifically. my understanding has always been that the existing rules already covered most of that but i guess they want it more explicit. gonna have to dig into that one. if you find a good summary link drop it in here, im sure other people would appreciate it.

wait so i need to update my firmware to be legal?? i have a mini 2 also and i never did anything with Remote ID settings. im kind of freaking out a little. where do i even check if im compliant or not
