so ive been flying for about 8 months now and mostly just landing on grass or whatever flat surface is around. my neighbor saw me flying last weekend and asked why i dont have a landing pad and honestly i didnt have a great answer. i looked some up and theres a huge range from like $12 ones on amazon to the heavy duty foldable ones that cost way more.

does it actually make a difference or is this one of those things people buy and then never really use? i fly a mini 3 pro mostly in parks and open fields. the grass isnt usually super long but sometimes there are rocks and stuff. curious what people actually use day to day

honestly for a mini 3 the landing pad matters more than you'd think, not because the drone is fragile but because the sensors on the bottom freak out over uneven textures when you're doing a precision land or even just hovering low. ive had it drift sideways on gravel because the downward vision sensors got confused.

i use a hoodman one, think i paid around $35 for the medium size. folds up into a little bag, takes maybe 30 seconds to set up. not glamorous but i dont regret it. the cheap amazon ones work too honestly, a few people in my local club use them and they hold up fine. the main thing is just having a clean flat surface with a center marker so you know where youre putting it down.

I bought a cheap one off amazon and it got destroyed in the wind the second time I used it lol. the velcro tabs on the folding kind just dont hold once they get a little dirty. upgraded to the pgytech one and that thing is solid, has stakes you can peg into the ground which is a game changer in any kind of wind. probably overkill for a mini but i also fly bigger stuff so it works for everything.
