diatone vs iflight for a 5inch - am i overthinking this

  • Members

been going back and forth on this for literally three weeks and im starting to annoy myself. i have two builds right now - a self built 3inch running a kakute f7 and an old rooster 5inch thats basically falling apart at this point. want to replace the rooster with something that i dont have to babysit as much, been flying hard for about 18 months so im not a total noob but im not sending massive gaps either.

basically come down to the diatone roma f5 v2 or the iflight chimera7 pro, though im open to other suggestions. the diatone stuff i hear has better build quality out of the box but the iflight ecosystem for parts replacement seems better just because they sell everything individually. or maybe im wrong about that, idk. anybody actually own both and have a real opinion that isnt just a youtube review

had the roma f5 for about 8 months. the frame is genuinely well made, no complaints there. the motors they ship it with are fine but not remarkable, swapped mine out for some xing2s after one of them got bent up. my one gripe is that the stack layout makes getting to the FC a bit annoying if you need to reflow solder anything, had to basically disassemble the whole thing once when an esc pad came loose. not a dealbreaker but worth knowing.

never owned the chimera so cant compare directly but the iflight parts availability thing you mentioned is real, they do stock basically everything which is nice when youre at a fly in and something goes wrong

you're overthinking it, both are fine. the real differene at your level is gonna be how you set up betaflight not which prebuilt you chose lol. that said i've heard the chimera7 runs a bit hot on the stack if you're doing long sessions so might wanna look into that if you fly packs back to back. also the 7 inch format is kinda in an awkward spot imo - heavier than 5 inch, not as smooth as a true 7, might just want a proper 5 inch unless you have a specific reason for the extra size
