FAA finally updating remote ID rules? saw something about this

  • Members

so i was browsing around yesterday and stumbled onto some news about the FAA potentially revising some of the remote ID requirements, something about broadcast modules and maybe loosening up a few things for recreational flyers. honestly i cant find the original article again which is annoying but i swear it was on one of the aviation news sites not just some random blog.

anyone else heard anything about this? im trying to figure out if its worth waiting before i buy a module for my old Phantom 4 or just bite the bullet now. i feel like every time i make a decision about this stuff the rules change a week later lol

yeah ive been following this a bit, there was something on the FAA site a few weeks back about an NPRM ? notice of proposed rulemaking ? related to some of the remote ID stuff but its still pretty early stages, nothing finalized yet. the broadcast module requirement for non-standard RID has been a whole mess honestly and i think they know it. my advice for the Phantom 4 situation is just get the module now, even if they tweak things it's unlikely they'll go backwards and say you dont need one, more likely they'd just adjust how it works or the specs.

also worth checking the AOPA and AMA sites, they usually break this stuff down in plain english way better than the FAA docs do
