DJI Neo impressions after a few weeks ? pretty different from what i expected

  • Members

so i picked up the Neo about three weeks ago mostly because i wanted something i could just toss in a jacket pocket and not think about, been using a Mini 3 Pro as my main flyer for like a year and a half so i was curious how the Neo would compare for casual stuff.

honestly my first reaction was kinda mixed. the whole no-controller thing is cool in theory and the subject tracking works better than i thought it would, but the image quality is noticeably softer than the Mini 3 and i knew that going in but still, seeing it on a big screen is a different thing than reading about it in a spec sheet. wind resistance is also pretty rough, took it out on a slightly gusty afternoon and it was fighting hard to hold position.

that said for what it is ? like genuinely pocketable, stupid simple to launch, good enough video for social media ? its hard to argue with it. the automated shots for solo filming are actually really solid. just dont expect Mini 3 quality out of it and youll probably be happy. curious if anyone else has had time with one

pretty much mirrors my experience, the wind thing is real. i tried to use mine at the beach and it was a no-go past maybe 8 or 9 mph, it was just drifting and the footage was super jittery. but indoors and calm days its genuinely fun and the size is just ridiculous for what it can do. i think people buying it as a Mini replacement are gonna be disappointed but as a second smaller option its great

ive been on the fence about the Neo for a while now. the price point is actually pretty reasonable compared to where DJI stuff used to be but im still not totally sold. my concern is more about the longevity of it ? these ultra-light drones always feel kinda fragile to me and i worry about parts availability down the road. also wasnt there some news about DJI potentially releasing an updated version or a pro variant of the Neo at some point? i feel like i read something vague about that but might have been speculation. doesnt help that every time you almost pull the trigger on something there's a rumor about a new one coming
