okay so this is something ive been going back and forth on for a while. im doing a lot of cinematic work now, mostly real estate and some narrative short stuff, and im trying to figure out if theres actually a meaningful quality difference between running something like the Zenmuse X7 on an Inspire 2 versus just strapping a Sony A7C or even a GH6 onto a Gremsy or Freefly gimbal on a heavier platform.

the X7 is obviously super clean integration and the DL mount lenses are genuinely sharp but you're kind of locked into that ecosystem and the dynamic range while good isnt exactly competing with a full frame sensor anymore. on the other hand setting up a mirrorless rig with a third party gimbal has its own headaches, balance changes every time you swap lenses, payload limits get tight, center of gravity management is a whole thing.

i guess what im really asking is whether anyone has done this comparison in an actual production environment and not just a test flight in a parking lot. image quality, reliability, workflow after, all of it

ran both setups for about a year doing commercial stuff. honest answer is the X7 on the I2 wins on reliability and workflow by a huge margin, you just show up and fly and the footage is in the can. the mirrorless rig gives you technically better raw files but youre spending way more time on set managing the rig, and if something goes sideways mid shoot youre in trouble. the X7 DR is fine for 90% of deliverables, clients arent pixel peeping your log footage theyre watching the grade. only time id say go mirrorless is if you specifically need something the X7 cant do, like certain anamorphic work or a clients specific camera requirement.

this is kind of what i want to know too actually, following this thread. i've been looking at the Freefly Alta X with an URSA Mini payload which is a completely diffrent beast price wise but if youre doing narrative work the camera familiarity on set might matter? editors and colorists already know BRAW so theres no surprises in post. anyway probably not helpful for your exact question but the ecosystem thing cuts both ways depending on who youre handing footage off to
