so ive been flying for about 8 months now and my footage is getting better but the one thing that still bugs me is the orbit/circle shot. like i watch other peoples videos and the subject just stays perfectly centered while the drone glides around it and it looks effortless. mine always drifts a little or the altitude creeps up slightly through the shot and it just doesnt look right in the final edit.

im on a mini 3 pro so i do have the quickshot circle mode but honestly i feel like im cheating using that and also it doesnt always frame things the way i want. trying to learn to do it manually but its hard to nail. any tips from people who actually do this regularly? also does post stabilization in premiere help or does it just make it look wobbly in a different way

honestly the drift you're describing is almost always a wind thing more than a technique thing, at least at first. even a light breeze you can barely feel on the ground will push the drone off its arc and then you're constantly correcting and that correction shows up in the footage. i started doing my orbits flying INTO the wind on the far side of the circle so the drift kind of cancels out through the rest of the rotation. sounds weird but it genuinely helped.

as for the altitude creep thats usually because your thumb is doing tiny adjustments on the wrong stick without you realizing. try consciously keeping your throttle stick totally still and just using yaw and roll. takes practice. and yeah warp stabilizer in premiere can help smooth the very minor stuff but if the orbit itself is visibly drifting it wont save it, itll just make the edges of frame look stretched and wobbly like you said

i use the quickshot for this and i dont feel bad about it at all lol, the manual orbit is genuinely one of the harder moves to nail consistently. that said what i do is use the quickshot to get the basic motion locked in and then i'll adjust the entry and exit in the edit so it feels more intentional. also color grading makes a huge difference in whether a shot feels cinematic or just... footage. even a slightly imperfect orbit looks way better once you've pulled the highlights down and added a little warmth
