Building my third 5" quad and debating between 2207 1700-2000KV motors versus 2306 motors for freestyle flying. I know the 2306s will give more punch and torque, but I'm concerned about the extra rotating mass affecting flip/roll rates.

Currently running 4S-6S batteries and want something that can handle both smooth cinematic shots and aggressive freestyle moves. The weight difference is about 8-10g per motor, so 32-40g total.

For those who've flown both extensively - is the extra torque worth the weight penalty for freestyle applications? Or should I stick with tried-and-true 2207s?

Been flying both for 2+ years. 2306s are noticeably more locked-in during power loops and split-S maneuvers, but you'll feel the extra inertia in rapid direction changes. For pure freestyle, I prefer 2207s - more nimble and easier to stop/start rotations.

Just made this exact switch last month. The 2306s definitely feel more "planted" but require more aggressive stick inputs to get the same response. If you fly a lot of tight technical spots, go 2207. Open field freestyle? 2306s all day.

I'm still learning freestyle but noticed my 2306 build feels harder to control in acro mode. The extra mass makes mistakes more punishing because it's harder to recover quickly. Might be better to master technique on lighter 2207s first?
