ok so this might be a dumb question but bear with me. my buddy keeps telling me to just buy a Holybro Kopis 2 HDV because i keep crashing my builds during the learning phase and spending way too much time repairing instead of flying. and i get the logic but every time i look at the price of something like the Kopis i think i could build something similar for less and have parts i actually understand.

but then i crash and spend two weekends fixing it and think maybe he has a point. the Kopis specifically ? does it actually hold up better than a typical self build in terms of durability or is it more or less the same carbon and components just assembled for you. also how is the tune on it, i know its running betaflight but does holybro do anything useful with it out of the box or is it generic. genuinely unsure if the prebuilt premium is worth it at my stage

the kopis is pretty well put together honestly, the frame itself is decent quality and holybro's wire routing is way cleaner than most people's first few builds including mine. the tune they ship is serviceable, not exciting, i'd say its actually on the conservative side which might be fine for you if youre still learning. you will want to go into betaflight and at minimum adjust rates to match how you fly because the defaults are pretty slow feeling.

durability wise its no better or worse than a comparable self build, carbon is carbon and if you hit something hard the arms will break just the same. the real advantage is not having to debug why your motor 3 is desyncing or why your vtx is getting noise from the esc stack. you just fly it. for someone in the learning phase who keeps getting stuck in repair loops that actually matters more than people give credit for

i mean your buddy isnt wrong but also there's something to be said for building your own stuff because when it breaks you actually know how to fix it fast. i went prebuilt route early on and when things went wrong i was kind of lost because i hadnt been through the build process myself. ended up learning betaflight tuning the hard way anyway. so it depends what you want out of the hobby i guess. if you just want to fly and dont care about the techy side, kopis is fine. if you want to eventually tune your own stuff properly the build experience does pay off later even if its frustrating now
