trying to get smoother on the sticks ? any drills that actually helped you

ok so this is kind of embarrassing to admit but ive been flying for almost two years and my footage is still pretty jerky sometimes. like technically i can fly fine, havent crashed anything major, but when i watch my clips back especially on slower cinematic stuff there's always these little twitches and overcorrections that just look amateurish. i fly mode 2 on a DJI RC with expo set pretty low thinking that would help but maybe im doing it wrong.

ive seen people talk about doing figure 8s and hovering practice and stuff like that but i kind of want to hear what actually made a difference for people rather than just generic advice. also wondering if switching to a proper radio with better gimbals would even matter at this point or if its just a me problem

the thing that helped me the most was honestly just flying in manual GPS mode more and resisting the urge to let the drone do the stabilizing work for me. like when youre relying on position hold all the time your inputs are kind of masking how imprecise you actually are. flying in a light breeze with just atti mode on a day where conditions are manageable, you really learn fast where your weaknesses are because the drone will show you immediately.

also and this might sound weird but slowing everything down helped me more than any specific drill. i used to try to do these sweeping moves and they always looked rushed. started doing the exact same moves at like half the speed i thought was right and suddenly the footage looked way more intentional. expo settings can help but i think its more about training yourself to be deliberate than any specific hardware or settings thing. that said a radio with decent hall effect gimbals is night and day over a cheap one if you ever do upgrade, just probably wont fix the fundamentals

i had the same issue for ages. what finally clicked for me was doing slow orbits around a fixed point manually, not using the automated orbit feature, and trying to keep the subject perfectly centered the whole time. sounds boring but after a few sessions my overall smoothness on everything else got noticeably better. the coordination between yaw and lateral stick is what trips most people up i think
