Been tweaking my tune for better flow and I'm torn on D-gain settings. Currently running D around 38-40 on my 5" but seeing some guys run way higher for that buttery smooth feel. Higher D = smoother but hotter motors?

What's everyone's experience with this tradeoff? Flying mostly technical freestyle, not racing. Motors are getting warm but not crazy hot on 4S.

• Want that glass-smooth feel in transitions
• Don't want to cook my motors
• Currently using stock freestyle preset as baseline

I run D around 45-50 on my freestyle rig and motors stay cool. Make sure your filtering is dialed in first - bad filters will make you need lower D. Also check your props aren't bent.

Honestly I've found the "buttery smooth" thing is overrated. I keep D around 35-40 and focus more on good rates/expo setup. Smooth flying comes from stick technique more than crazy high D values IMO.

Higher D definitely helps with bounce-back after flips! For freestyle, boost the D values to increase smoothness - higher D-gain dampens propwash and reduces bounce-back after flips and rolls. Just monitor temps and you should be good.
