so ive been flying recreationally for about 2 years now mostly with a mini 3 pro and some friends keep telling me i should just get the 107 cert in case i ever want to do paid work. i looked it up and honestly the study material looks kind of overwhelming, all this airspace stuff and weather reading and i dont even know where to start. is the actual test as hard as it looks or am i overthinking it? i did okay in school but i was never like a aviation nerd or anything. also how long did people actually study before feeling ready

honestly it sounds scarier than it is. i was in the same boat, zero aviation background and i passed first try. i used the sporty's free online course and just did like an hour a day for maybe 3 weeks. the airspace stuff clicks once you spend some time with sectional charts, theres a bunch of youtube videos that really help visualize it. the weather section is the one that trips people up so dont skip that. day of the test i was nervous but like half the questions felt familiar from practice exams. just do a ton of practice tests, seriously thats the main thing

took mine last spring. studied maybe 6 weeks but i was probably overdoing it tbh. the test has 60 questions and you need a 70 to pass, which doesnt sound like much room for error but its doable. i found the actual exam slightly easier than some of the practice tests i was doing on prepware. the sectional chart reading questions were the ones i was most worried about but they give you a legend so its not as bad as you think. if youre already flying you probably know more than you realize, like the airspace classes and stuff.
