mini 4 pro keeps drifting when hovering indoors, is this normal?

  • Members

so ive had my mini 4 pro for about 3 months now and whenever i try to hover indoors it just slowly drifts around, like it wont stay in one spot. outdoors its totally fine but inside my garage it just kind of wanders. ive calibrated the IMU a couple times already. im starting to wonder if im doing something wrong or if this is just how it is without GPS lock. the downward sensors seem to be working because it doesnt just drop when i let go of the sticks but it still moves around slowly

yeah thats pretty much expected behavior without GPS. indoors the drone is relying on the vision positioning system and if your floor doesnt have enough texture or the lighting is bad it struggles to hold position. try hovering over a patterned rug or put some tape on the floor in an X pattern and see if that helps. also make sure youre at least 30cm off the ground because the downward sensors have a minimum range. ive had mine drift pretty badly in my basement which has a plain concrete floor, but over carpet it holds way better.

i had the same thing happen and it drove me crazy for weeks lol. ended up being my lighting was too dim. the vision sensors basically need decent light to track the surface below. i put a shop light on the floor pointing up and it held position way more stable. not perfect but much better. also worth checking that your props are all fully seated, one of mine was slightly loose and i think that was making it worse
