so ive been studying for like 6 weeks now and i feel pretty okay about most of it but the airspace stuff is still tripping me up. like i understand the basics of class B and C but when it comes to the sectional charts and reading all the little symbols i still feel like im guessing half the time. been using the faa prep test app and tony northrup's videos mostly. scored around 78-82% on practice tests which i know isnt great but im hoping the real thing has some overlap.

does anyone remember what the actual test was like, like is it similar to the practice questions online or does it throw curveballs? and is the weather section as heavy as everyone says? i feel like every practice test i take has like 4-5 metar questions

the airspace stuff clicks way better once you just spend like an hour on skyvector zooming around different airports. forget memorizing symbols in isolation, just look at actual charts around towered airports and it starts making sense visually. that's what finally did it for me anyway.

as for the actual test yeah the metars show up a lot but honestly they're kind of the easiest points to get once you know the format, its very formulaic. the questions i found hardest were the loading and performance ones, specifically density altitude stuff. make sure you can actually work through those with the given chart, dont just memorize answers. my test had two of them and they were slightly different from any practice question ive seen.

i just took mine like three weeks ago. 78-82 on practice is honestly fine, i was scoring similar and passed with an 85. the real test felt pretty comparable to the prepware questions to me, nothing felt totally out of nowhere. just make sure you know how to read the airport diagram legend thing, i blanked on one of those for a second.
