DJI Neo -- anyone actually using this thing or is it just hype

  • Members

ok so the DJI Neo has been out for a bit now and at first i kind of dismissed it as a toy but ive been seeing some footage coming out of it that honestly surprised me. for the price point its hard to ignore especially if youre someone who just wants something super lightweight to throw in a bag and not stress about. im mostly a Mavic guy and have been for years but even i have to admit the autonomous tracking on the Neo looks pretty slick in some of the videos ive watched.

that said i dont know anyone in person whos actually bought one so hard to get a real feel for it. the reviews on youtube are all from people who got review units so they always seem a bit too positive. curious if any regular people here picked one up and what the real world experience is like, especially battery life and how it handles any kind of wind because that thing looks like it would get blown around pretty easy

got one about six weeks ago and its genuinely fun but you have to go in with the right expectations. wind is absolutely its weakness, anything over maybe 15mph and youre going to notice it fighting to stay stable and the footage suffers. i took it out on a pretty calm day last weekend though and the follow me stuff worked way better than i expected for something this small. battery is fine, about what they advertise, maybe slightly less in real use which is normal. i wouldnt replace my Air 2S with it but as a secondary grab and go cam its been getting way more use than i thought it would

the autonomous modes are cool in theory but i tried a friends one and the subject tracking lost me like twice in a ten minute session which was a bit annoying. might have been user error tbh we didnt read much before just trying it. image quality is decent for what it is but dont expect it to compete with anything in the Mavic line. if your main thing is casual content and you dont want to think too hard about flying it its probbaly a solid pick
