so ive been running fatshark dominator hd3s for like 3 years now and honestly they've been fine, no major complaints except the analog picture quality is just getting painful to look at compared to what everyone else seems to be flying these days. been thinking about jumping to walksnail avatar but the price is making me hesitate and i honestly cant tell if the latency is actually acceptable for freestyle or if its still that annoying digital lag that made early DJI feel like flying through jello.

my buddy runs the DJI O3 setup and swears by it but he mostly does cinematic stuff so latency isnt really his priority. im doing mostly park freestyle and the occasional small gap stuff, nothing insane but i do rely on reaction time. anyone actually made this switch and has real opinions on it, not just youtube reviewer stuff

made the jump from dominator v3s to walksnail about 8 months ago and honestly the latency thing is overblown at this point. the avatar HD goggles run around 22ms on the low latency mode and after like two or three packs you genuinely stop noticing it. the picture quality difference is just embarrassing in comparison, like going from a 2005 camcorder to an actual decent camera. only thing i'd say is make sure you're on a recent firmware before you judge it because the earlier versions had some quirks with link stability that they've mostly sorted out now.

the antenna system on walksnail is actually pretty solid out of the box too which surprised me, i half expected to need to swap them immediately but the stock patch+omni combo works well enough for park flying. might upgrade later but it's not urgent.

i tried both and ended up keeping DJI O3 tbh. walksnail image has this sharpening algorithm thing that bugs me after a while, its like slightly over-processed looking. personal preference thing probably. but for freestyle specifically the O3 latency in 100mbps mode felt more consistent to me. this is all super subjective though so maybe just find someone local who'll let you try their gear before dropping that kind of money
