so ive been flying cinematic stuff for about two years now mostly on a Mavic but lately ive been watching a ton of FPV content and i think i want to actually build something or buy prebuilt, not sure yet. my main thing is i dont want to spend a year just learning soldering before i ever get to actually fly.

the DJI O3 setup keeps coming up everywhere but its also like way more expensive than Walksnail Avatar stuff. from what i can tell they're both digital video systems but is there actually a meaningful difference in practice or is it just brand loyalty at this point? i see people getting really heated about it online and i cant tell if its a real technical difference or just tribalism.

also if i do go prebuilt, is there a brand thats not a total ripoff? ive seen BetaFPV and iFlight mentioned a lot and the Nazgul series looks cool but honestly i have no idea how to evaluate if something is quality or garbage until i crash it i guess.

honest answer: if youre coming from zero soldering experience the prebuilt route makes way more sense to start. iFlight Nazgul series is solid, ive had a Nazgul5 V3 running for almost a year and only had to replace a motor after a bad crash into concrete, which is kind of expected. the build quality is genuinely fine for what you pay.

on the video system thing, O3 vs Walksnail is a real difference but maybe not the one people make it out to be. O3 has better latency and the goggles integration if you go full DJI ecosystem is pretty seamless. Walksnail has been catching up fast and the HDZero crowd will tell you both of them are garbage compared to true zero latency but thats a whole other rabbit hole. for someone starting out honestly just pick one and go. the skill gap between you and the video system is way bigger than the gap between the two systems.

what kind of flying are you actually trying to do though, like freestyle, racing, cinematic? that changes the answer a lot.

i went prebuilt with a BetaFPV Cetus kit like a year ago and it was fine for learning but i outgrew it pretty fast. probably shouldve just gone straight to a 5inch. just something to think about depending on how serious you are about it
