flying in Iceland next month ? any tips?

  • Members

so im heading to Iceland in about 5 weeks and obviously bringing the drone. ive been reading about the rules there and its honestly a bit confusing. like some areas around the national parks seem to be restricted but then other sources say its fine as long as you're not near people or structures. anyone actually flown there recently and can tell me what the deal is from experience not just what the government website says

also wondering if the wind is as brutal as everyone says. ive flown in pretty gusty conditions before but iceland looks like a whole different situation

flew there two summers ago with my mini 3 and yeah the wind is no joke. lost connection twice near the southern coast and both times i just let it hover and it came back fine but my heart was going. the rules around vatnajokull and some of the other parks are strict, i just stayed well clear and flew in open fields and random roadside spots. nobody bothered me once

the light there is insane though, like golden hour basically all day in summer. worth every bit of the hassle getting the gear there

dont forget to register if you havent already, there's some EU drone registration thing that applies there even though they're not in the EU exactly. i read about it before my trip and then forgot to actually check if it mattered lol. ended up being fine but probably worth looking into
