got my drone confiscated at the border ? nightmare

just got back from southeast asia and yeah it was a whole thing. customs pulled me aside in one of the countries and basically said i needed a permit i didnt have. had to surrender the drone for like four days while they processed some paperwork and i nearly had to leave without it. ended up getting it back on my last day which was lucky but i lost basically half my shooting days

i thought i had done my research but clearly not enough. some of these countries the rules are just totally different from what you read online and by the time you find out youre already there

ugh which country if you dont mind saying? ive heard thailand and vietnam both have pretty strict import rules for drones but some people just walk through no problem and others get stopped. seems totally random to me honestly

this is exactly why i started using UAV Forecast and also just cold emailing the local aviation authority before any international trip. sounds overkill but twice now ive caught permit requirements that werent mentioned anywhere obvious. sorry that happened to you, four days is rough especially if you only had a short trip
