ok so i know the obvious answer is just dont fly near power lines but sometimes for the shots im trying to get its kind of unavoidable, or at least id have to reframe everything significantly to stay clear. im not talking about flying right next to them, more like 50-80 meters horizontal distance, similar altitude.

i know they emit EMF and can theoretically mess with the RC link but ive seen really varied opinions on how much this actually matters in practice. some people say theyve flown near them for years with zero issues, others swear they caused a flyaway. i fly a mini 4 pro mostly, so occuSync on 2.4/5.8.

is there any actual data on this or is it mostly anecdote? and does the type of line matter, like a big transmission line vs a regular neighborhood distribution line probably arent the same right

yeah the type of line absolutely matters and i dont think enough people talk about that distinction. high voltage transmission lines, the big ones on tall towers carrying 115kV and up, those generate significantly more EMF and can also cause compass interference which is arguably more dangerous than just signal loss. distribution lines running through neighborhoods are way less of a concern in my experience, ive flown near those plenty without issues.

the compass thing is actually what worries me more than RC link interference near power lines. ive had a mini series drone start drifting noticeably when i got closer to a transmission line than i intended to. it reconnected fine but the attitude hold was janky for a few seconds. i think OcuSync is actually pretty resilient to RF noise in general but the magnetic field stuff is a seperate problem entirely and harder to predict

honestly for a mini 4 pro at 50-80m i wouldnt stress too much about the signal side of it. ive done it, others have done it, the link is usually fine. just keep line of sight, dont let the lines get between you and the drone, and watch your compass calibration warning. thats really it
