so i crashed my 5inch pretty hard into a concrete barrier at the track last weekend, bent two props but figured that was the worst of it. replaced the props and on the bench one of the motors just makes this grinding/stuttering sound when i spin it up. pulled it off and the bell has a tiny wobble when i spin it by hand, like barely noticeable but its definitely there.

ordered a replacement motor (same stator size, different brand cause the original is discontinued) and got it swapped out last night. here's the thing ? when i run the motors up now in betaflight the new one reads slightly different temps than the other three after a 30 second spin up. not massively different but maybe 5-8 degrees warmer. all the esc outputs look fine in the logs, no desync or anything obvious. is this just the motor breaking in or should i be looking at something else? the kv rating is listed the same but i have no idea if the winding resistance is different between brands.

the temp difference after just 30 seconds is probably nothing, motors from different manufacturers with the same kv can have pretty different winding resistance and that affects how they behave thermally. if they all even out after a few packs and nothing is getting dangerously hot then id just fly it and stop worrying. the real thing to check is whether your outputs are balanced in blackbox ? if one motor is consistently working harder than the others to hold attitude thats when youve got a real problem, could mean a slightly bent frame arm putting the motor at a weird angle or an issue with the esc channel.

also did you check the motor screws torqued properly? a loose motor will vibrate differently and run hotter

yeah 5-8 degrees sounds like its within normal variation between brands tbh. i replaced one motor on my quad with a different brand once and had similar weirdness for the first few packs then it sort of settled. the break in thing is real especially if the bearings are fresh. id just do a few normal packs, check the temps again after each one and see if its trending up or stabilizing
