Air 3 vs Air 3S ? is the upgrade actually worth it for casual weekend flying

  • Members

so ive had the Air 3 for about 8 months now and honestly love it, no real complaints. but the Air 3S keeps popping up in my youtube recommendations and now im second guessing myself which is annoying lol

from what i can tell the main difference is the bigger sensor on the 3S and some improved low light stuff. i mostly fly on weekends, nature trails, the occasional family event, nothing professional. i dont sell footage or anything like that. the price jump is like $300-400 depending on where you look which is not nothing

has anyone actually gone from the Air 3 to the 3S and noticed a real difference in everyday use? not talking about side by side youtube comparisons shot in perfect conditions, i mean actually flying it around and going oh yeah this is noticeably better. curious what people think

went through exactly this debate a few months ago. ended up keeping my Air 3 and honestly have zero regrets. for casual weekend stuff the Air 3 footage is genuinely fantastic, like if you showed it to someone who doesnt fly drones they'd have no idea it wasnt shot on something more expensive. the low light improvement on the 3S is real but unless you're regularly flying at dusk or in shaded forest areas i think you'd struggle to notice it in your actual use case

the money i didnt spend went toward a couple extra batteries and a good ND filter set which has probably improved my footage more than a sensor upgrade would have anyway. just my two cents

I have the 3S and it's great but I came from an older Mini 2 so I can't really compare directly to the Air 3. The low light thing is genuinely noticeable though, I flew it around my neighborhood at like 7pm last week and the footage was way cleaner than I expected. If you're already happy with the Air 3 for what you do I'd probably just hold onto it and wait for whatever comes next honestly
