okay so this has been bugging me all afternoon and i needed to tell someone. was out at this park near my house doing some follow shots of my buddy on his mountain bike using active track 360 or whatever they call it on the Mavic 3 Pro. everything was going great for the first couple passes and then out of nowhere the thing just decided to track a jogger that came into frame instead of my buddy. like completely switched subjects without me doing anything. the drone banked hard toward the jogger and came way too close to some trees on the edge of the path.

i grabbed the sticks and took manual control which worked fine and nothing bad happened but it genuinely scared me. i had obstacle avoidance on so i think that saved it from actually hitting anything but still. is this a known thing or did i do something wrong in the setup. i feel like ive used active track before without this happening but maybe conditions were different i dunno

yeah active track losing the subject when someone else enters frame is a real thing and it happens more than DJI probably wants to admit. the system is doing visual tracking and when two moving subjects are close together it can get confused, especially if the new person is moving faster or is more prominently in frame at that moment. what helps is making sure your subject is clearly locked and centered before they start moving, and honestly keeping a thumb close to the sticks whenever theres other people around. youre not doing anything wrong its just a limitation of the tech.

this happened to me with a dog once lol, drone just decided the golden retriever was way more interesting than me on my bike. i think the faster moving subject sort of takes over. i've started just doing manual cinematic shots for anything where theres gonna be other people or animals nearby, active track is great in controlled situations but parks are honestly kind of unpredictable. glad nothing hit the trees though that couldve been a bad day
