weird color banding thing happening on my Air 3 footage, only in certain conditions

this has been bugging me for a while and i finally decided to just post about it. so i get this weird subtle banding in my sky shots, like horizontal lines almost, but its not always there. seems like it shows up more when im shooting in certain lighting conditions, maybe overcast? im shooting in normal color profile, not D-Log, auto everything basically because im still figuring things out.

its not terrible but once you see it you cant unsee it on the final edit. anyone else run into this or know what causes it

that sounds like it could be a shutter speed issue - banding in skies especially overcast ones is often from the shutter not playing nice with artificial lights nearby or even just the frequency of light in certain conditions. try setting your shutter manually to something like double your framerate (so if youre at 30fps, try 1/60) and use ND filters to compensate for exposure. auto shutter can do some weird things especially in flat even lighting.

also worth checking if it shows up in the original files or only after export, sometimes its a compression thing in editing software too

yeah ive seen this exact thing, took me forever to figure out. for me it was the shutter being on auto and flickering around. once i locked it in manually it basically went away. ND filters are kind of essential once you start noticing stuff like this, the 4 and 8 stop ones get used constantly in my kit
