trying to get smoother on manual moves, feels like im fighting the sticks

been at this for probably a year and a half now, started on a mini 2 and moved to an fpv setup about four months ago. cinematic stuff is what im going for not racing, so im running the dji fpv in normal mode mostly and occasionally manual but im not there yet with acro.

anyway the thing thats bugging me is my yaw and roll inputs during like a banking turn always feel jerky. ive watched the same move back on my monitor and it looks like i have parkinsons compared to the guys on youtube doing those smooth orbits and pull aways. i know its a practice thing but i feel like im missing something technical too. ive messed with the expo settings a little but honestly dont fully understand what im doing there, just kind of nudging things and hoping.

is there a logical way to approach dialing in expo or is it really just fly more until your hands figure it out? feels like both probably but curious what worked for people.

expo is one of those things that clicks once someone explains what it's actually doing. the curve basically makes the center of your stick travel less responsive so small inputs near neutral don't translate immediately to movement, gives you a bigger dead zone to work in. for smooth cinematic stuff you want a lot of expo, like higher values, because you spend most of your time making small corrections and you want those to be subtle. the downside is at full stick deflection you still get full response so it doesnt limit your speed just your sensitivity around center.

that said yeah it's also just reps. smooth flying is basically muscle memory and it takes longer than people expect. i flew on a simulator probably 40 hours before i stopped looking jerky on real footage. betaflight sim or velocidrone if you havent already, even if youre not going full acro the muscle control transfers.

the other thing nobody really talks about is how much your physical setup matters. are you pinching the sticks or thumbing? i switched to a slight pinch grip on my right stick specifically for yaw inputs and it made a noticeable difference because you get more fine motor control than just your thumb pad. sounds dumb but try it.
