ok so ive been flying on dji v2 goggles for about 2 years and honestly the image quality is great but im kind of tired of the latency and the whole ecosystem lock-in thing. been thinking about picking up a pair of fatshark dominator hd3s or maybe the skyzone sky04x and just going full analog. my main spots are open fields and some light urban stuff, nothing crazy with obstacles.

i know the image quality drops off a lot on paper but people keep telling me the 'feel' is different and somehow better for proximity flying? that part i dont really understand. is it just a placebo thing or is there something real to it with analog that makes it feel more connected. also wondering if my current video tx setup (air unit on most of my builds) is just gonna be dead weight if i make the switch or if i can keep some of it

not in a rush to buy anything just trying to understand what im actually getting into before i drop another $300+ on goggles

the latency thing is real and its not placebo. analog is somewhere around 15-25ms glass to glass depending on your setup, dji even on low latency mode sits closer to 30-40ms and yeah that doesnt sound like much but when youre threading gaps it does actually feel different. i went the other way, came from analog and tried dji for a while, went back to analog for freestyle within like 3 weeks.

the sky04x is solid if you want the sharper analog experience, has decent dvr too. the hd3s are older and honestly a bit dated now but they fit great if you have a narrow face. your air unit is gonna be paperweight for analog yeah, different protocol entirely. youll want a proper vtx like the rushfpv tank or a tramp for 5.8 analog. the antenna side is where people sleep on it too ? getting a pair of lhcp pagoda or a small patch on the goggles makes a bigger difference than most people expect coming from dji

i made almost the exact same switch last year and honestly i dont regret it at all for freestyle. the resolution hit is real and if youre used to dji clarity it will look like garbage for the first week lol but you get used to it fast. the feel thing is hard to explain but its just... snappier feeling? like the image reacts to your inputs faster and your brain syncs up to it differently

one thing nobody told me though is that antenna selection actually matters way more on analog than i thought. i was running the stock stubby antennas that came with my goggles and reception was mediocre, switched to a pair of lumineer axii and it was night and day. so factor that into your budget if you go that route
