okay so ive been flying a Mini 2 for about a year and just pulled the trigger on the Mavic 3 Classic last week and wow the difference is insane. anyway i got it mostly for some landscape and real estate stuff on the side and everyone keeps telling me i need ND filters but honestly im a bit lost on which ones to actually start with.

i picked up a cheap set off amazon (some brand called Freewell i think?) and the 64 and 128 look really dark to me even on a bright sunny day. like the footage comes out looking underexposed even when i crank the ISO. im shooting in D-Log M if that matters. should i be adjusting something else first or did i just buy the wrong filters

also not sure if this is related but im noticing some slight jello effect in windy conditions, is that normal for this camera or am i doing something wrong

Freewell is actually a decent brand, not cheap junk at all. the issue you're running into is pretty common when switching to log profiles ? D-Log M is going to look really flat and dark on the monitor which can trick you into thinking you're underexposed when youre actually fine. pull the footage into something like DaVinci Resolve and apply the LUT that DJI provides for D-Log M, youll be surprised how much detail is actually in there.

for filter selection the general rule most people use is the 180 degree shutter rule ? so if you're shooting at 30fps you want your shutter at 1/60, which means you pick whichever ND gets you closest to that exposure. on a bright sunny day that's usually ND64 or ND128 yeah. so sounds like you might have the right filters, just the log footage is throwing you off.

the jello in wind is real on any drone tbh, the Mavic 3 handles it better than most but if you're in serious gusts theres only so much the stabilization can do. try not to fight it with aggressive corrections on the sticks, let the drone settle.

oh man i went through the exact same thing when i first tried shooting log. genuinely thought my filters were broken lol. what the other guy said is spot on, slap a LUT on it and it transforms completely. i wasted probably two weeks thinking my settings were wrong before someone told me that.
