so this happened yesterday and im still kind of shaken up about it. was out flying my Mavic Air 2S near some cliffs, not doing anything crazy just getting some footage of the coastline maybe 400 meters out. signal dropped which has happened before and i wasnt too worried because i have RTH set up.

thing is it came back but landed like 80 meters away from me in some scrub brush. nearly lost it. had to go crashing through bushes to find it and one of the props has a nick in it now.

i think maybe i moved after i took off? i remember walking maybe 10-15 meters along the path while it was in the air. does the home point update automatically or do i need to do something to refresh it. also flying near cliffs, could that have messed with the GPS lock when it was trying to come home

yeah the home point is set at the moment of takeoff and doesnt update automatically unless you specifically enable dynamic home point which i dont think is a default setting on the Air 2S. so if you walked 15 meters youre going to get RTH to where the drone thinks you launched from, not where you actually are. you can update the home point manually in the DJI fly app during flight, worth getting into the habit of doing that if you move around a lot.

cliffs are genuinely tricky for GPS too, the signal can bounce weird off rock faces and compass interference is real especially if theres any iron content in the geology. i always add a bit of extra caution buffer when flying near anything like that. glad you found it though, losing an Air 2S in bushes would be a rough day.

cliffs and coastal areas are no joke for interference, ive had my Mavic 3 do some pretty weird stuff near rocky headlands. one time it just sort of drifted for a second before recovering, nothing dramatic but enough to make me pay attention. i always do a compass calibration if im flying somewhere new and gnarly looking terrain wise. probably overkill half the time but it makes me feel better about it
