so ive been running fatshark dominators with an analog setup for like 4 years now and finally caved and got the walksnail avatar HD goggles. spent the whole weekend flying with them and honestly my feelings are pretty mixed. the image quality is obviously way better, like there's no comparison there, but something feels slightly off when im doing tight gaps or proximity flying and i cant tell if its actual latency or just me adjusting to a totally different visual experience.

been reading that the avatar system runs around 22ms end to end which on paper sounds fine but it just feels different than what i was used to. anyone gone through this transition and did you eventually stop noticing it? also running the standard antennas that came in the kit, not sure if thats a factor or if the latency thing is just a firmware issue people have already figured out workarounds for

yeah went through the exact same thing last year. took me probably 3 or 4 sessions before my brain stopped compensating for the analog feel. the latency is real but its consistent which is the important thing ? analog actually had variable latency depending on signal quality and your brain was already doing a ton of subconscious correction for that. with walksnail its just a fixed offset and you adapt pretty fast once you trust it.

the stock antennas are honestly fine for most flying but if you're doing long range or flying around a lot of structure i swapped mine out for lollipop style RHCP antennas on the goggles and noticed slightly better penetration through concrete stuff. probably not your latency issue though, that's just going to be a brain adjustment thing.

i had the same weirdness when i switched, thought my quad was handling different lol. its definitely psychosomatic mostly, give it like a month of regular flying. the 22ms number is under ideal conditions btw i think in practice people measure closer to 25-30 depending on camera settings and whether you have recording on
