so i binned my 5inch pretty hard into a concrete wall at the track last weekend, front left arm is visibly bent and the motor on that corner is definitely toast ? spins but you can hear grinding and it gets hot way faster than the others. the other three motors seem fine but im not 100% sure how to tell if theres bearing damage that isnt obvious yet.

the frame is a TBS Source One and the arm is cracked near the base but not fully snapped. ive got spare arms somewhere in my parts drawer but honestly im questioning whether its worth rebuilding this one or just ordering a fresh frame and starting clean. the fc and escs look okay visually, no burnt smell or anything obvious.

anyone dealt with this kind of impact damage on a Source One specifically? wondering if the flex in those arms actually saved the rest of the build or if i should be looking more carefully at the stack for damage i cant see

the grinding noise is your bearings, yeah. even if the motor still spins it's not gonna last and you'll probably get vibrations that mess with your gyro readings before it fully dies. i'd pull all four motors honestly and spin the bells by hand with no props ? any roughness or gritty feeling and they're suspect. motors are cheap enough that replacing the one obvious bad one and leaving the rest is kind of a false economy if you binned it that hard.

as for the Source One frame, those arms are replaceable and pretty cheap, but if its cracked at the base near the motor mount you need to look at whether the main plate took any stress too. run your finger along the carbon near the standoff holes and look for delamination. sometimes you cant see a crack but you can feel a slight flex that wasnt there before. if the plates feel solid id just swap the arm and motor and call it done.

ive had similar with a different frame and honestly i just replaced the whole thing because i was paranoid about hidden frame damage. probably overkill but i couldnt stop thinking about it mid-flight lol. the motors though, yeah defintely replace the damaged one at minimum, grinding bearings will just get worse
