so ive been planning this trip to iceland for a while now and im bringing the mini 3 pro along. done a bunch of research but honestly the rules there seem pretty straightforward compared to some other countries ive dealt with. open category, stay under 120m, dont fly over people, the usual stuff.

but what i really want to know is practical stuff ? like how do you handle the wind out there near the coast. ive heard it can get absolutely brutal and im a little worried about losing the drone or just getting garbage footage because its fighting the wind the whole time. also is there anything weird about flying near the geysers or national park areas i should know about. anyone whos actually been there and flown please help me out

went last september, the wind near vik was insane. like genuinely had the drone warning me about strong winds almost the entire time and i was flying a mavic 3. inland near the highlands it was way more manageable though. id honestly just check windguru every single morning before you even think about taking off, saved me a couple times from making bad decisions.

for the national parks just look them up individually bc vatnajokull has different rules than thingvellir. some areas are straight up no fly and there arent always obvious signs. the locals arent super aggressive about it but i wouldnt risk it

not iceland specifically but ive flown in norway and scotland and the coastal wind thing is real. my rule now is if the trees are moving more than a little sway i just dont bother, not worth stressing the motors and the footage looks shaky anyway even with stabilization doing its thing
