Are bigger drone events worth the travel costs?

Saw that the Vegas Drone Meetup is coming up and it looks amazing - multiple days, desert locations, tons of different activities. But I'd have to fly there from the East Coast and get a hotel. For those who've been to the big annual gatherings, are they significantly better than local monthly meetups? I love my local group but wondering if these destination events offer something special you can't get at home.
