so ive been planning this trip to Iceland for like 6 months now and im finally going. bringing my mini 3 pro obviously. ive done some reading about the rules there but honestly its a bit confusing with all the different zones especially around the national parks. anyone actually flown there recently? i dont want to show up and find out half the places i want to shoot are restricted.

also curious if the wind is as bad as people say. ive seen some footage that looks insane but also some really calm stuff so idk what to expect.

went last september and yeah the wind is no joke. i had days where i just kept the drone in the bag because it wasnt worth the risk. the south coast especially gets really unpredictable, like it can go from totally calm to 40 knots in like 20 minutes. that said some mornings were absolutely perfect, totally glass. just check the forecast obsessively and be ready to adjust your whole day around it.

for rules, i used the icelandic transport authority website and the Icelands airspace app. most of the popular tourist spots have some kind of restriction but theres usually still room to fly nearby if you scout a bit. just dont fly over puffin colonies, people take that very seriously there.

not been to iceland but i traveled with my drone through a few EU countries last year and the biggest thing is just making sure you have your operator ID registered and the drone is in the right category for where youre flying. its all EASA rules so iceland should be similar. also just carry printed copies of everything, some rangers have no idea what theyre looking at but it helps to look prepared lol
