so theres a fly-in about 45 minutes from me and ive never actually been to one of these group events before. been flying solo for like 2 years now and honestly kind of nervous about showing up not knowing anyone. is it weird to just show up alone? do people actually talk to each other or is everyone just doing their own thing the whole time

dude just go, i showed up to my first one knowing literally nobody and within like 20 minutes i was chatting with this guy who flies fixed wing exclusively and we ended up flying together most of the day. people at these things are generally pretty welcoming, way less gatekeepy than like online forums can be lol

depends on the event honestly. some of the bigger organized ones can feel a little cliquey if theres already an established club running it. smaller informal ones are usually better imo. either way bring extra batteries, thats always a good conversation starter for some reason
