Air 3 or Air 3S ? is the upgrade actually worth it for a hobbyist

  • Members

so ive been flying my Air 3 for about 8 months now and honestly love it, no real complaints. but i keep seeing the Air 3S pop up and now im second guessing myself like usual lol. the main thing that caught my attention is the bigger sensor and i do shoot a lot of dawn/dusk stuff where noise is always kind of a problem for me.

but then again i'm not selling footage or anything, just personal stuff and some stuff for family. my buddy said the difference is noticeable but he also just loves buying new gear so i dont really trust him on this one. anyone here actually gone from the Air 3 to the 3S and felt like it was genuinely worth the money? or is it one of those things where you only notice on a big monitor

went through exactly this a few months back. honestly the low light improvement is real, not just marketing stuff. i shoot golden hour stuff a lot and the 3S handles that transition into blue hour way better than my Air 3 did ? less noise, cleaner shadows. but and this is a big but, if you're just sharing on instagram or youtube at 1080p most people will never see the difference. where it matters is if you're doing any grading in post, the files just have more room to work with. for purely hobbyist use though i'd probably just keep the Air 3 and put the money toward ND filters or a good bag honestly

i upgraded and dont regret it but i also shoot for a few local businesses so the image quality matters more for me. the one thing nobody really talks about is how the Air 3S handles wind a bit better it seems, maybe im imagining it but footage just feels smoother in gusty conditions. could be placebo though
