been running dji v2 goggles for a couple years and honestly im pretty happy with them but my second quad is a 3 inch and i dont really want to slap an o3 air unit on something that small, the weight and heat just doesn't make sense. so im looking at either going hdzero with the eco vtx or just doing avatar with the walksnail nano.

the latency on hdzero is supposedly better but every time i watch comparison videos the actual footage quality from avatar looks noticeably nicer to me. i do a lot of park flying and some light gates stuff, not racing but i like to rip pretty quick. also my buddy has hdzero goggles and i could use his rx module in mine but then im locked into that ecosystem i guess.

anyone running either of these on a smaller build and have opinions? mainly concerned about reliability and whether the eco vtx thermals are actually a problem in real use

the eco vtx heat thing gets way overblown online. ive been running one on my 3.5 inch for like 4 months including some pretty hot summer days and it hasnt given me any real issues. just dont bury it in your stack with no airflow and you're fine. the latency on hdzero is genuinely noticeable if you do any kind of fast flying, not like massive but its there. avatar footage looks better to me too but the latency difference kept bugging me once i knew about it. if your buddy has hdzero already that ecosystem argument is pretty strong honestly, sharing modules is really useful

I'd push back a little on the latency thing mattering much for park flying ? it's really more of a gates/race scenario where those extra milliseconds actually cost you something. For casual ripping the avatar image quality probably gives you a better overall experience just because the video is nicer to look at and you'll enjoy your footage more. that said the walksnail nano has had some firmware issues in the past and i had one just randomly drop link on me a couple times before an update fixed it. both are fine choices at this point tbh, the ecosystem lock-in is probably the more important factor for your situation
