so this might be a weird question but we've been looking at the Inspire 3 for a hybrid role ? primary cinema drone but also potentially carrying some additional gear for a specific broadcast client, nothing crazy but were talking about mounting a secondary wireless transmitter unit below the standard gimbal bay area. not replacing the X9 just adding maybe 400-500g somewhere on the airframe.

I know the Inspire line isnt really designed as a payload platform the way something like a Matrice is but the flight performance headroom on the I3 seems significant and i wondered if anyone has actually stress tested it with added weight outside the standard gimbal config. the wind resistance specs are already pretty impressive stock, just trying to figure out if this is a terrible idea before we invest more time in it. would obviously check with DJI enterprise support but wanted real world opinions first

honestly i wouldnt. the Inspire 3 airframe is engineered pretty specifically around the weight and aerodynamic balance of the X9 gimbal system and adding assymetric or even centered mass outside that envelope is going to affect flight time, wind handling, and probably the attitude control tuning. DJI enterprise will almost certainly tell you the same thing. if the broadcast use case is real and recurring just get a Matrice 350 with a Zenmuse payload and keep the I3 clean for the cinema stuff, trying to make the Inspire do two jobs at once is usually where people end up with expensive problems

yeah there was a thread on a facebook group a while back where someone tried something vaguely similar with the Inspire 2, adding a secondary RF unit, and from what i remember the main issue wasnt the weight tolerance per se but interference with the existing OcuSync antennas and gimbal vibration isolation getting thrown off. the I3 is a different beast but id imagine the same categories of problems apply. the platform just isnt modular in that way, its more like a finished product than a base system if that makes sense
