so theres a fly-in about 2 hours from me next month, AMA sanctioned i think, and ive never actually flown with other people before. always just go out to the field alone or with one friend. kind of nervous honestly, dont know what to expect. do people just do their own thing or is it more organized? and do i need to bring anything specific or register in advance or whatever

they're usually pretty chill, at least the ones ive been to. mostly people just set up their pit area and fly whenever they want, there might be some organized stuff in the afternoon like spot landing contests or something but nobody forces you to participate. just bring your gear, maybe a folding chair, and honestly just walk around and talk to people. most guys there love showing off their builds and talking shop. worst case you just fly and go home, no big deal

went to my first one last summer and was super intimidated but everyone was really welcoming actually. one guy spent like 45 minutes helping me dial in my rates because he noticed i was overcorrecting on yaw. didnt even ask, just offered. the only thing i wasnt prepared for was how loud it gets when everyone is flying at once lol, bring ear protection if you're sensitive to that stuff
