ok so ive been lurking here for like 3 months watching build videos and i finally pulled the trigger on a 5inch freestyle build. got a Diatone Roma F5 frame which everyone seems to like, picked up some Emax Eco II 2306 motors, and then just kind of froze when it came to the ESC.

my question is basically ? does the amp rating on a 4in1 ESC matter that much if im not flying super aggressively? i was looking at the Speedybee F405 stack because its cheap and has good reviews but its only 45A per motor. some guys on youtube are saying get at least 50-55A but i genuinely dont know if thats for like racing builds or if it applies to me too. also confused about whether i need BLHeli_S or BLHeli_32 for what im doing, like does it matter for a beginner doing slowish freestyle

also havent soldered in like 10 years so thats going to be fun lol. already bought flux and decent solder, got a TS100 iron. any tips before i destroy my first ESC appreciated

45A on a 4in1 is fine for 2306 motors doing casual freestyle, honestly people way overthink this. those motors on 4S arent going to pull anywhere near that sustained unless youre pinning the throttle constantly. the Speedybee stack is solid for the price, used it on two builds. BLHeli_32 vs S ? get 32 if you can afford it, bidirectional dshot and rpm filtering makes a real difference in tune quality but its not mandatory to fly, just makes things smoother.

for soldering: tin your iron tip first, always. and dont be shy with flux, like more than you think. the biggest mistake beginners make is holding the iron on too long trying to get the solder to flow when the real issue is they didnt prep the pad. get it hot fast and get off fast.

I was in literally the same spot 6 months ago with a similar build. went with a 45A stack and havent had any issues. one thing nobody told me and i wish they had ? test fit EVERYTHING on the frame before you solder a single thing. like dry fit motors, check the stack mounting holes actually line up, run your wires mentally. i had to desolder my battery lead twice because i didnt think about where the XT60 was going to sit relative to the frame arms and it was way too short
