been going back and forth on this for a while. i fly a lot in and around the city, not like downtown manhattan but suburban areas with a ton of wifi networks everywhere. currently on an older phantom 4 pro with OcuSync 2 and thinking about upgrading but im trying to figure out if O3 on something like an air 3 would actually be better in dense RF environments or if its more marketing than reality.

the thing is i dont totally trust the DJI spec sheets on this because of course theyre going to say their new thing is better. what i want to know is if anyone has done like a real side by side or at least flown both systems extensively in similar conditions. ive read that O3 has better frequency hopping but i genuinely dont know how much that matters in practice versus the OcuSync 2 i already have.

also curious if the gain on the Air 3 antennas is actually meaningfully different. my phantom holds up pretty well right now so maybe im solving a problem i dont have, but ive had a few sketchy moments near apartment complexes where the signal got pretty gnarly

honestly from what ive seen O3 handles congested spectrum noticeably better. i went from a mavic 2 pro to an air 3 last spring and the difference flying around my neighborhood was pretty obvious ? the mavic would occasionally get that pixelated freeze frame thing when i was near houses with a lot of wifi routers, the air 3 just kind of... doesnt do that. i cant tell you exactly why because im not an RF engineer but the frequency hopping on O3 does seem more agressive in a good way. feels like it finds clean spectrum faster.

that said your phantom 4 pro OcuSync 2 is no slouch. if youre not having actual problems i wouldnt upgrade just for signal performance. if you want an air 3 for other reasons then yeah the signal improvement is real but its not like youre flying a toy with bad comms right now

the gain difference between antenna setups is probably less relevant than people think for typical suburban flying. where you'll actually feel the O3 improvement is the latency on the video feed more than outright range or interference rejection. the OcuSync 2 on your phantom gets a bit mushy feeling at distance compared to O3, the image latency goes up in a way thats hard to explain until you've used both. for flying near buildings tho im not sure it changes much, those multipath reflections are gonna cause headaches on any system if you're really deep in a concrete canyon
