did anyone catch the new FAA remote ID enforcement stuff starting this year

so ive been flying for about 4 years now mostly just recreational stuff around my area and i finally sat down last weekend and actually read through the remote ID requirements properly because i kept putting it off. honestly its a lot more involved than i thought and im kind of confused about whether my older mavic air 2 is even compliant or if i need to buy one of those broadcast modules to strap onto it.

i saw something on the FAA site about enforcement ramping up but its not super clear to me what that actually looks like in practice. like are there inspectors going around at parks now or is it more complaint-based. and what even happens if you just... dont have it enabled. has anyone actually had any issues yet or is it still pretty relaxed where you are flying.

the mavic air 2 got remote ID support through a firmware update a while back so you should be covered if youre on the latest firmware, just double check in the DJI fly app that remote ID broadcasting is actually turned on in the settings because for some reason it doesnt always default to on after updates. the broadcast module thing is mostly for older gear that never got firmware support.

as for enforcement honestly i havent seen much on the ground level yet. i fly at a local field with an AMA club and nobody has come by checking anything. i think its mostly complaint driven right now but that could change, the FAA has been pretty clear they want this fully enforced eventually. just make sure you have it sorted before you fly somewhere more high profile i guess.

yeah same boat here, i was stressing about this for a while. ended up just buying one of the DJI remote ID modules for my older phantom just to stop worrying about it. wasnt super cheap but whatever, peace of mind. i think the enforcement thing is still pretty light touch in most areas but i wouldnt gamble on it forever
