DJI Flip looks kinda interesting but also feels like a step sideways?

ok so i saw the announcement for the DJI Flip and i have genuinely mixed feelings about it. on paper it looks cool, foldable, the obstacle avoidance is there, decent video specs for the price range. but it also feels like DJI is just filling every possible gap in their lineup now to the point where its hard to know what youre actually supposed to buy anymore.

like who is this for exactly. people who have the mini 4 pro probably dont need it. people just starting out might be better off with a mini 3 at a lower price. maybe its aimed at the selfie crowd because of the flip design but i dunno. curious if anyone has actually gotten their hands on one or if its just hype at this point. also i heard somewhere that there might be new export restrictions coming that could affect DJI availability in some markets, not sure how credible that is

i think the Flip is pretty clearly aimed at the content creator slash vlogger market rather than like serious aerial photographers. the whole flippable camera thing makes way more sense if you think about people who want to do selfie shots or face-cam style stuff while also getting overhead footage. its not really competing with the mini 4 pro in my mind, different use case entirely.

the export restriction stuff has been floating around for a while and its hard to separate actual news from speculation at this point. theres been talk of expanded restrictions on chinese drone tech in the US and EU but nothing concrete that ive seen confirmed yet. worth keeping an eye on though

honestly every time DJI releases something new i go through the same cycle of being curious then talking myself out of upgrading lol. my mini 3 does everything i need it to do and i keep reminding myself of that. the Flip looks neat but i agree it feels like it exists mostly to have another SKU on the shelf rather than solving a real problem most pilots have
