my quad keeps snapping rolls weird after retuning ? freestyle specific

  • Members

so ive been messing with my tune for like two weeks now trying to get it dialed for freestyle and something is just off with my snap rolls. they finish fine but theres this weird oscillation right at the end, like the quad doesnt want to settle. its not terrible but you can feel it and it looks bad in the footage.

running betaflight 4.4, 5inch build, 2306 motors. i bumped D up a bit thinking it would help damp that out but it just made the whole thing feel sluggish. dropped it back down and the snaps feel more crisp but the bounce is still there. feels like a P issue maybe? or could be the filtering. i genuinely dont know at this point im just turning knobs hoping something clicks

anyone dealt with this on a freestyle tune specifically? not racing, i want the quad to feel locked but still have some snap to it

yeah classic P too high symptom honestly. when snaps overshoot and bounce at the end its almost always P on roll needing to come down a little. D chasing it will just make it feel dead. try dropping roll P by like 5-8 and see if that cleans it up before you touch anything else

i had something similar a few months ago and it drove me insane for ages. turned out my props were slightly unbalanced which was making everything worse and masking what was actually a filter issue. not saying thats your problem but worth checking before you go too deep into the PIDs. also what RC rate are you running because sometimes super high rates can make end-of-roll stuff look worse than it is
