got my drone confiscated at customs lol, anyone else had this happen

yeah so this was a whole thing. flew into a country i wont name and they pulled me aside at customs and just... took it. said i needed an import permit i had never heard of. did some research after and apparently some countries treat drones like commercial equipment and you have to declare them and have paperwork or they hold it until you leave. had to pick it up on the way out which was just incredibly annoying and stressful the whole trip.

anyway just wanted to warn people because i was totally blindsided. i thought i was pretty good about researching rules before i travel but the customs/import side of things i had completely ignored. gonna be a lot more careful going forward

this happend to a buddy of mine in india a few years back. he got it back eventually but it took like two days of back and forth and he missed flying the places he actually went there to shoot. some countries are really strict about it being treated as like a broadcast or commercial device even if its just a hobby quad. morocco is another one people get caught out on.

wait so did they give you any kind of receipt or documentation when they took it? im asking because im going somewhere a bit sketch next year and now im paranoid. also was it still in the original box or just in your bag?
