yeah so this happened. got a 68 and needed a 70 to pass. two points. i dont even know what to say, ive been flying for three years and figured the test would be easier than it was. the airspace and weather sections got me, i thought i knew that stuff but apparently not well enough. the questions were weirdly specific in ways i wasnt expecting, like they'd describe a situation and then ask what you do and all the answers seemed plausible to me.

anyway i can retake it after 14 days i think. has anyone else been through this and is it worth trying different study materials the second time around or should i just grind harder on the same ones

two points is brutal, sorry man. i would definitely switch up at least some of your materials because if you studied hard and still missed the weather and airspace questions then something in how that info got presented to you probably wasnt clicking. try davids UAV coach practice tests if you havent, they explain why each wrong answer is wrong which i found way more useful than just seeing the correct one. also the FAA chart user's guide is free online and surprisingly readable once you're just focusing on the parts that show up on the test.

three years of flying experience doesnt really translate to the test, thats the thing nobody tells you. the test is basically an aviation knowledge exam that happens to include drones, so a lot of it is stuff that has nothing to do with how well you can actually fly. weather theory, airspace regulations, airport operations... stuff most hobbyists never think about. failing by two points just means you were almost there, not that you dont know anything. grind the weak spots and you'll get it.
