Just learned Split-S but can't get smooth exits - any tips?

Been working on my Split-S for a few weeks now and while I can complete the maneuver, my exits are always jerky and I sometimes bounce around afterward. The classic 180-degree roll followed by pitching back to reverse direction works fine, but the recovery is killing me.

Flying a 5" with pretty standard tune. Anyone have specific stick technique tips for smoother exits? Maybe timing issues with throttle management?
