ok so ive been doing a lot of reading and i keep going back and forth on this. replaced two motors on my whoop after a bad landing cracked one of the original ones and bent the shaft on another. put in new motors, emax eco 1103s, and it flies fine but i keep second guessing whether i should be balancing the new props im putting on or if thats just an old DJI phantom era thing people did.

my buddy says prop balancing doesnt matter on small quads because the props are so light the imbalance is negligible and the FC just handles it anyway. but ive seen some guys on here swear by it even on 65mm props. the quad does have a little jello in the video and i cant tell if thats the new motors not being broken in yet or what. ESC calibration is done, filters are default betaflight tune for the board.

also not sure if this is related but one of the new motors runs noticeably warmer than the other three after a few packs. is that normal for new motors or should i be looking at something

on a whoop with 65mm props honestly your buddy is probably right, the mass is so low that even a slightly imbalanced prop isnt going to show up much and the fc loop rate compensates. the jello is more likely your camera mount or just the default filtering not being dialed in for your specific build weight after swapping motors. id try dropping the d term filtering a touch or just run autotune if you havent.

the warm motor thing though, id check that the motor screws arent too long and dragging on the stator. happens more than people think when you swap motors and the screw length isnt identical to the originals. thats a real easy way to kill a motor slow over a few sessions.

prop balancing on a whoop lmao no. i havent balanced a prop since like 2018 and my footage is fine. that said the warm motor is worth checking, could also just be a slightly different kv than what the esc is expecting if you grabbed the wrong variant by accident. wouldnt be the first time i ordered the 7500kv and got the 6000 shipped instead
