weird color banding issue on my Air 3 footage ? only happens sometimes

  • Members

this has been bugging me for a while and i cant figure out if its a settings thing or something wrong with my drone. basically i get these weird horizontal banding artifacts in my footage, kind of like subtle color shifts across the frame, but its not every flight. happened twice last month and then nothing for a few weeks and now its back

im shooting in D-Log M usually, 4k 60fps. the banding shows up more in skies and flat color areas. i thought it was a shutter speed thing at first so i tried fixing the 180 rule more carefully but it still happened. its not rolling shutter, its more like... color banding i guess. hard to describe without posting a clip

anyone seen this before. genuinely stumped

could be a few things honestly. first thing id check is your ND filters ? if youre using third party ones sometimes you get weird color casts that look like banding especially in log footage. also worth checking if your display LUT is somehow bleeding into the actual recording, ive seen people get confused by that before. and the obvious one, what bitrate are you at? if youre on auto or a lower setting and flying somewhere with a lot of RF interference the compression can do funky things

if none of that is it, maybe post a frame grab somewhere, banding is one of those things thats really hard to diagnose without seeing it

had something similar on mine turned out to be a dodgy SD card of all things. was getting subtle artifacting in gradients and skies and i kept blaming settings forever. swapped to a different card and it just went away. probably not your issue but worth trying if you havent already
